DETROIT, April 7 (UPI) -- Patrick Kane's shootout goal Saturday lifted Chicago to a 3-2 win over Detroit that ensured the Red Wings would open the playoffs on the road.

The Blackhawks-Red Wings meeting opened the final day of the NHL's regular season, one in which every team in the league saw action.

Chicago needed a regulation win to move past Detroit into fifth place in the final Western Conference seedings, but the Red Wings' Pavel Dasyuk scored with 47 seconds left in the third period to forge a 2-2 tie.

Kane eventually scored in the first round of the shootout and Detroit's three shootout attempts were stopped by Corey Crawford.

A victory for the Red Wings would have given them a chance to move past Nashville into fourth place. Although the lone point Detroit picked up pushed the Red Wings into a tie with Nashville, the Predators had already claimed the tiebreak advantage.

Nashville will thus host Detroit to start the playoffs next week. Chicago will be matched up against the winner of the Pacific Division, which was determined in late action Saturday.

Viktor Stalberg and Andrew Shaw gave the Blackhawks a 2-0 lead through two periods, but Johan Franzen brought Detroit within one 8:11 into the third and Dasyuk tied it on a tip-in of a shot by Tomas Holstrom.

Crawford made 30 saves to get the win. Jimmy Howard stopped 30 shots for the Red Wings.
