April 6, 2012 at 1:57 AM

LOS ANGELES, April 6 (UPI) -- Joe Pavelski's goal in the third round of the shootout Thursday gave the San Jose Sharks a 6-5 win over Los Angeles.

After Pavelski put a wrister past Jonathan Quick for what turned out to be the decisive goal, Antti Niemi stopped Anze Kopitar's shot and the Sharks came away with the win.

The Kings maintained the Pacific Division lead with 94 points and hold the tiebreaker over San Jose, which holds the seventh spot in the Western Conference playoff chase -- one point ahead of Phoenix, with one game in hand.

Los Angeles, San Jose and Phoenix all clinched a playoff spot Thursday when the Nashville Predators beat Dallas.
