GLENDALE, Ariz., April 4 (UPI) -- Mike Smith made a team record 54 saves Tuesday to lead the Phoenix Coyotes to a 2-0 win over Columbus.
The win was Smith's third consecutive shutout and kept seventh-place Phoenix one point ahead of San Jose in the Western Conference playoff seeding.
Boyd Gordon and Gilbert Brule scored 2:03 apart in the second period to give the Coyotes the lead. Smith held fast in the third period as the Blue Jackets outshot Phoenix 15-3.
Allen York turned in 20 saves for Columbus. The Blue Jackets were 0-for-7 on the power play and had their three-game winning streak broken.
