'Macho' Camacho free on bond in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla., April 3 (UPI) -- Boxing champion Hector "Macho" Camacho turned himself in this week after being charged with child abuse in Florida, Orange County sheriff's deputies said.

Camacho, 49, was charged in November with beating up his son at his ex-girlfriend's home in March 2011.

Camacho reported to the county jail for booking Monday and soon left after posting $5,000 bond. His attorney said in a written statement Camacho only recently learned there was a warrant out for him.

The Orlando Sentinel said Camacho allegedly throttled his son by the neck, threw him to the ground and stomped on him. The age and identity of the alleged victim were not released.

Camacho won championships in four weight classes in the 1980s and fought professionally as late as 2008.
