CARSON, Calif., April 1 (UPI) -- C.J. Sapong scored his third goal of the year in the 47th minute Sunday and Sporting Kansas City remained perfect with a 1-0 victory over Chivas USA.

On the scoring play, Graham Zusi launched a shot that bounded high off the crossbar. The midfielder got his head on the rebound and sent it to the left where Sapong was waiting in the center of the box to head the ball into an empty net.

Kansas City (4-0-0) almost got another goal in the 74th minute when Chivas goalie Dan Kennedy was forced to make a hand save off Kei Karmara's corner kick.

The Goats (1-3-0) nearly got the equalizer in the 54th when Laurent Courtois found Nick LaBrocca with a pass, only to see his shot hit the left post.
