NHL: Tampa Bay 3, Winnipeg 2 (OT)

TAMPA, Fla., March 31 (UPI) -- Steven Stamkos notched a record-setting goal 45 seconds into overtime for Tampa Bay Saturday, handing the Lightning a 3-2 victory over Winnipeg.

Stamkos' tally was his 56th this season and also his fifth overtime game-winner of the season -- an NHL record. He broke the old mark of four held by four players, equaled most recently last year by New Jersey's Ilya Kovalchuk.

The victory was a bittersweet one for Tampa Bay, however, as the Lighting were eliminated from the playoffs when Washington defeated Montreal in a shootout Saturday.

Ryan Malone registered a pair of regulation goals and Sebastien Caron earned the victory by stopping 26-of-28 shots for the Lightning.

Kyle Wellwood and Antti Miettinen scored, and Ondrej Pavelec turned aside 36 shots for the Jets.
