NHL: New York Rangers 4, Winnipeg 2

March 28, 2012 at 10:10 PM   |   Comments

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, March 28 (UPI) -- Brian Boyle gave New York the lead in the third period Wednesday and the Rangers equaled this season's best NHL record to date with a 4-2 victory over Winnipeg.

New York came back from a two-goal deficit and reached 105 points for the season -- tied with St. Louis for most in the league.

Both the Rangers and Blues have five games remaining, with New York holding the tiebreak edge in the battle for home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs because it has more non-shootout victories than St. Louis (45 to 44).

Spencer Machacek and Bryan Little scored 56 seconds apart early in the second period to give the Jets the lead. Before the period was over, however, Michael Del Zotto and Ryan Callahan had tallied for the Rangers to tie it.

Boyle's goal came 3:07 into the final period and Derek Stepan increased the New York lead on the power play with 9:54 to go.

Henrik Lundqvist picked up the victory with 23 saves.

Ondrej Pavelec stopped 28 shots for the Jets, who remained eight points out of a playoff position with five games remaining.
