MLB: Seattle 3, Oakland 1 (11 innings)

TOKYO, March 28 (UPI) -- Dustin Ackley and Ichiro Suzuki drove in runs in the 11th inning Wednesday, giving the Seattle Mariners a 3-1 season-opening win over Oakland in Tokyo.

Ackley had a fourth-inning home run and Suzuki wound up 4-for-5 on the day but the rest of the Mariners' attack managed just three hits.

Brendan Ryan doubled to open the Seattle 11th, snapping a string of 14 consecutive Mariners batters being retired. He took third on a sacrifice and Ackley followed with a single to center for a 2-1 Seattle lead.

Ackley stole second and scored when Suzuki punched a line-drive single to center.

Oakland's Andrew Carignan (0-1) took the loss, giving up two hits and the second Seattle run.

Seattle reliever Tom Wilhelmsen (1-0) picked up the win with two innings of no-hit relief. Mariner starter Felix Hernandez scattered five hits and struck out six over eight innings. Brandon League pitched the 11th and got the save.

Ackley had a fourth-inning home run to account for the season's first run, but Oakland answered in the bottom of the inning with a two-out, run-scoring double by Kurt Suzuki.

Oakland starter Brandon McCarthy gave up six hits in seven innings. Three of the hits he allowed were by Ichiro Suzuki.

The A's and Mariners wind up their two-game series in Japan Thursday.
