VANCOUVER, British Columbia, March 27 (UPI) -- Roberto Luongo turned aside all 36 shots he faced Monday, backstopping the Vancouver Canucks to a 1-0 victory over Los Angeles.

Luongo made 15 saves during a frantic third period in which the Kings pressed for the equalizer, but stood up to the test, logging his fourth shutout of the season and 59th of his career.

Manny Malhotra netted the game's only goal 3 minutes into the first period for the Northwest Division champion Canucks, who improved to 101 points and moved to within two of St. Louis for the overall Western Conference lead.

Vancouver won despite playing a third straight game without all-star forward Daniel Sedin, who is out with a concussion.

The Kings, who entered the game in a three-way tie for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West, got 24 saves from Jonathan Quick but suffered their 10th shutout-loss of the season.
