Serena Williams, on record streak, remains No. 1
NEW YORK, March 27 (UPI) -- The NFL champion New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys will kick off the 2012 NFL season with a Sept. 5 game at MetLife Stadium, the league said Tuesday.
The season-opening game will be on a Wednesday night -- the first time since 1948 the NFL has played a such a mid-week game.
The contest was moved from Thursday to avoid conflicting with U.S. President Barack Obama's address at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C.
The game has an 8:30 p.m. EDT kickoff time.
New York used two wins over Dallas late in the season to advance into the 2011 post-season with momentum, ultimately going on to beat New England in Super Bowl XLVI.
