Castroneves ends drought with St. Pete win

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., March 25 (UPI) -- Helio Castroneves took the lead with 26 laps left and held on to end an 18-race winless streak with a victory Sunday at the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

Team Penske's Castroneves passed J.R. Hildebrand for the lead after pitting for the second and final time and went on to claim his third IndyCar race on the streets of St. Petersburg, Fla.

He logged a triumph while driving IndyCar's new "DW12" car -- named in honor of Dan Wheldon, who died last year during a five-car crash at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Target Chip Ganassi Racing's Scott Dixon ended up 5.5 seconds behind Castroneves for second place.

Ryan Hunter-Reay and James Hinchcliffe of Andretti Autosport took the third and fourth spots while Castroneves teammate Ryan Briscoe rounded out the Top 5.
