WINNIPEG, Manitoba, March 20 (UPI) -- Former Canadian hockey coach Graham James Tuesday was sentenced to two years in prison for molesting former NHL star Theo Fleury and his cousin as minors.
Manitoba Provincial Court Judge Catherine Carlson handed down the sentence in a Winnipeg courtroom three months after James pleaded guilty to counts of sexually abusing Fleury and cousin Todd Holt in the 1980s and '90s, NHL.com reported.
"What happened to Mr. Fleury and Mr. Holt is every child's worst nightmare," Carlson said.
The former coach pleaded guilty to sexual assault in the 1990s involving two teenage victims, including former NHL player Sheldon Kennedy, and served a 3 1/2-year prison sentence.
Fleury, Holt and another ex-player told Winnipeg police last year James had molested them as minors as well. James, 59, admitted guilt in connection with Fleury and Holt, while charges centering around the third player were stayed.
"I believe that Graham James will offend again and I truly believe Graham James will never be rehabilitated," Holt said after the sentencing.
Fleury didn't attend the proceeding but said in December James deserved life in prison.
