Calcavecchia grabs Toshiba Classic lead

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., March 17 (UPI) -- Mark Calcavecchia overcame rough weather and delays to card a 4-under-par 67 Saturday, claiming the two-round lead of the Toshiba Classic.

Calcavecchia, seeking his second career Champions Tour win, finished the day with a two-stroke advantage at 8-under-par 134 at Newport Beach Country Club.


Knotted for second place were 2010 champion Fred Couples (69) and Loren Roberts (70) at 6-under.

Second-round co-leader Bernhard Langer, meanwhile, stumbled to a 1-over 72, falling into fourth-place tie with Mark McNulty (70) and David Eger (71) at minus-5.
