NHL:Phoenix 5, Vancouver 4

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, March 15 (UPI) -- Gilbert Brule put Phoenix in front for good late in the second period Wednesday and the Coyotes held on to defeat Vancouver 5-4.

Phoenix won for the second time in three games and moved within two points of Dallas for the lead in the Pacific Division.

The Coyotes overcame an early two-goal deficit with consecutive scores from Rostislav Klesla, Shane Doan and Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

David Booth tied the game for the Canucks midway through the second but Brule delivered the go-ahead goal on a wrist shot with 1:19 to go in the stanza.

Antoine Vermette's power-play goal expanded the Phoenix lead early in the third and that became the game-winner when Dan Hamhuis scored for Vancouver with 7:49 left.

Vancouver lost for the fourth time in five games.

Mike Smith made 39 saves to get the victory. Roberto Luongo surrendered all five Phoenix goals on 33 shots.
