NHL: Los Angeles 5, Detroit 2

LOS ANGELES, March 14 (UPI) -- Drew Doughty scored the game-winning goal Tuesday in the Los Angeles Kings' 5-2 win over Detroit.

Doughty's ninth goal of the season staked Los Angeles to a 3-1 lead and secured the Kings' second consecutive victory.

Jonathan Quick made 22 saves and the Kings further frustrated the Wings by killing all four of Detroit's power plays.

Justin Williams, Jeff Carter and Anze Kopitar had a goal and an assist apiece for the Kings. Slava Voynov accounted for the other goal.

Jimmy Howard's return to the Detroit goal after missing three games with a strained groin was not enough to save the Red Wings from their fourth loss in five games. Howard was touched for four goals on 26 shots.

Jiri Hudler and Johan Franzen scored for Detroit. Franzen's third-period goal made it 4-2 but Carter lobbed in an empty-net insurance goal for the Kings at 19:39.
