CHICAGO, March 14 (UPI) -- Patrick Kane's backhander provided the only score in a shootout Tuesday, handing the Chicago Blackhawks a 4-3 victory over NHL-best St. Louis.

After the two teams battled to a 3-3 tie in regulation and following a scoreless overtime, Kane began the tiebreaker by speeding in on the Blues' Jaroslav Halak, faking a forehand shot and moving to his backhand before putting it between the netminder's pads.

Chicago's Corey Crawford made shootout stops on T.J. Oshie, Andy McDonald and David Perron to secure the Blackhawks' fourth win in six games.

Brent Seabrook scored the equalizer in the third period while Andrew Brunette and Viktor Stalberg also tallied for Chicago.

Crawford relieved starting goalie Ray Emery after Emery allowed three goals on six shots to begin the game. Crawford went on to earn the win with 18 stops through the final 45 minutes of regulation and overtime.

McDonald, Patrik Berglund and Jamie Langenbrunner scored for St. Louis, which leads the NHL with 98 points.

Halak made 43 saves in the loss.
