Losing prep coach bites winner's ear

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 13 (UPI) -- A Massachusetts basketball coach who lost a sixth grade tournament game has been charged with biting off a piece of the winning coach's ear, police said.

Timothy Lee Forbes, 34, of Springfield, Mass. fled the tournament site before police arrived but turned himself in Monday, The Hartford (Conn.) Courant reported.

Charges against Forbes, an assistant coach, included mayhem, assault, and battery.

Police said the victim, 34, was rushed to Baystate Medical Center for treatment of a serious ear laceration.

Neither team was affiliated with Holy Name School in Springfield where the prep tournament was held.
