WASHINGTON, March 10 (UPI) -- C.J. Sapong scored late in stoppage time Saturday to bring Sporting Kansas City a dramatic 1-0, season-opening victory over D.C. United.

United dominated play against a team that finished first in the Eastern Conference last year but Kansas City came up with the win on Sapong's header.


Sapong drifted into the penalty area unmarked and received a perfect corner kick from Graham Zusi.

Things do not get any easier for United, which next will play at Los Angeles. The Galaxy did not lose at home during the entire 2011 season.
