VANCOUVER, British Columbia, March 9 (UPI) -- Samuel Pahlsson's goal late in the third period proved to be the game winner in the Vancouver Canucks' 3-2 win over Winnipeg Thursday.

Pahlsson connected on a slap shot at 14:17 to break a 2-2 tie, end Vancouver's two-game losing streak and put the Canucks one point behind first-place St. Louis in the Western Conference.

Ryan Kesler scored a short-handed goal in the first period for Vancouver and Alexander Edler added the Canucks' second goal at 6:28 of the third.

Kyle Wellwood and Blake Wheeler scored for Winnipeg. Ondrej Pavelec allowed three goals on 45 shots.

The Canucks outshot the Jets 45-32.
