WASHINGTON, March 4 (UPI) -- Ilya Bryzgalov turned aside 34 shots Sunday, logging his third shutout of the season in Philadelphia's 1-0 win over Washington.

Bryzgalov won his second straight start after backstopping the Flyers to a 6-3 victory over the New York Islanders Thursday, making 12 saves in the third period as the Capitals desperately sought the equalizer.

Eric Wellwood tallied the game's lone goal for Philadelphia, which holds down the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference.

Michal Neuvirth couldn't prevent Washington's second straight loss despite making 22 saves.

The Capitals remained one point behind Winnipeg for the eighth and final playoff slot in the East.
