ACAPULCO, Mexico, March 4 (UPI) -- Spain's David Ferrer completed a three-peat at the Mexican Open Saturday, breezing past countryman Fernando Verdasco in the event's title match.

Ferrer rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Verdasco in a 70-minute contest, collecting his third straight Mexican Open crown while seizing his second title in two weeks after also winning in Buenos Aires.

Overall, it was sixth-ranked Ferrer's third championship of 2012 -- he also won in Auckland in January and improved to 18-1 on the year.

The eighth-seeded Verdasco, meanwhile, was making his first finals appearance in Acapulco since 2004.
