Rebensberg wins again in Cup giant slalom

OFTERSCHWANG, Germany, March 3 (UPI) -- Viktoria Rebensburg of Germany held off American Lindsey Vonn Saturday for her second World Cup giant slalom victory in as many days.

Vonn had her goggles knocked askew when she clipped a gate with her face during the first run, but she turned in the fastest time of the second round to grab a podium finish and trails Rebensburg in the GS point standings by 135.

"She never took her foot off the gas in the second run and the course was set for everyone to do that," said U.S. women's coach Alex Hoedlmoser.

Rebensburg, who was more than 1 second faster than Vonn in the first run, finished with a combined time of 2 minutes, 28.99 seconds, 0.26 seconds faster than Vonn. Tina Maze of Slovenia took third.

The podium strengthened Vonn's lead in the overall World Cup standings.
