VANCOUVER, British Columbia, March 2 (UPI) -- Roberto Luongo made 28 saves in his third shutout of the season Wednesday, sending the Vancouver Canucks to a 2-0 decision over St. Louis.

The Canucks snapped a two-game skid, with both of those losses having come in overtime. They boosted their NHL-best point total to 90 in the first contest of a seven-game home stand and have a massive 20-point lead over Colorado in the Northwest Division.

Luongo got the best of a goaltending duel with Brian Elliott, who took a shutout into the third period. It was the 58th blanking of Luongo's 12-year career.

Alex Burrows ended the scoreless tie 4:17 into the third by beating Elliott with a slap shot. The only other goal was put into an empty net by Chris Higgins with 39 seconds to go in the game.

St. Louis, which would have moved past Vancouver at the top of the NHL standings with a victory, had won four in a row.
