SAN JOSE, Calif., March 2 (UPI) -- Ryan Miller, in the second of two stunning back-to-back performances, posted his second shutout in as many nights Thursday to lead Buffalo past San Jose 1-0.

Miller, who struggled early in the season, stopped all 40 shots he saw against the Sharks Thursday after making 43 saves in a 2-0 win over Anaheim Wednesday.

He has five shutouts for the season, equaling the number he has had in each of the last three campaigns. It was the 26th shutout of his nine-year career.

Drew Stafford scored the lone goal on a slap shot with 1:09 to play in the opening period. Antti Niemi turned aside Buffalo's other 18 shots.

The Sharks missed a chance to move back into a tie with Phoenix for the lead in the Pacific Division. The Sabres are 2-1 on a five-game road trip that has stops remaining in Vancouver and Winnipeg.
