DALLAS, Feb. 29 (UPI) -- Pascal Dupuis scored in the fourth round of the shootout Wednesday to give Pittsburgh a 4-3 victory over Dallas.
The Penguins won their fourth in a row while Dallas had a four-game winning streak snapped. The point the Stars earned, however, lifted them one in front of Colorado and Los Angeles for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
The Stars took a 2-1 lead into the third period, but Craig Adams and Chris Kunitz scored in the span of 37 seconds early in the stanza to put the Penguins in front.
Michael Ryder tied it for the Stars with 12:37 to play.
Both sides produced two goals during the first three rounds of the shootout, but Dupuis managed a score in the fourth round while Ryder could not.
Marc-Andre Fleury made 30 saves for the victory. Kari Lehtonen stopped 26-of-29 shots in regulation and overtime, then could turn aside only 1-of-4 in the shootout.
