Mayer, Chela move on in Mexico

ACAPULCO, Mexico, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Fifth-seeded German Florian Mayer and former champion Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina collected first-round wins Monday at the Mexican Open.

Mayer defeated Facundo Bagnis of Argentina 6-2, 6-4, while Chela -- who titled in Acapulco in 2000 and 2007 -- breezed past Cesar Ramirez of Mexico 6-0, 6-2 to advance on the clay courts.

Also moving on to the second round was seventh-seeded Marcel Granollers of Spain, who bested Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci 6-4, 6-2.

Italian Potito Starace, Pablo Andujar of Spain and Frenchman Benoit Paire also emerged from Day 1 with victories.
