JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Jacksonville Jaguars defensive lineman Nate Collins has been charged with marijuana possession in Virginia.
A state trooper pulled Collins over on U.S. 29 Thursday because his vehicle had tinted windows, The Florida Times-Union reported. The trooper said he smelled marijuana and discovered some marijuana cigarettes in a bag in the trunk.
The traffic stop was made in Warrenton, about 50 miles southeast of Washington.
Collins was given a ticket and ordered to appear in court April 19.
The Jaguars said in a statement team officials are aware of the charges and would not comment.
Collins, 24, who played for the University of Virginia, spent nine weeks with the Giants practice squad in 2010 before joining the Jaguars. He played 12 games in 2011, making 15 tackles, and became the second defensive lineman for the Jaguars to score a touchdown.
On March 13, Collins becomes an exclusive rights free agent, who will have to accept an offer from the Jaguars if the team makes one.
