NHL: New York Rangers 2, New Jersey 0

NEW YORK, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Henrik Lundqvist needed to make only 13 saves to record his NHL-best eighth shutout of the season Monday in the New York Rangers' 2-0 win over New Jersey.

Lundqvist benefited from a tight Rangers defense that allowed only three Devils shots in the third period.

The New York netminder notched his 43rd career whitewash as the Eastern Conference-leading Rangers won for the fifth time in six home games.

Ryan Callahan assisted on Carl Hagelin's first-period goal and added an empty-netter to provide New York's offense as the two teams combined for only 28 shots in a defensive struggle.

Martin Brodeur stopped 13-of-14 shots for the Devils, who sustained a third straight regulation-time loss for the first time since early December.
