MONTERREY, Mexico, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Mandy Minella, who reached the finals of a WTA event in Colombia this month, grabbed a quarterfinal berth Thursday at the Monterrey Open.
Minella got past Sesil Karatantcheva 6-3, 6-7 (1-7), 6-4 and will meet second-seeded Sara Errani.

Errani, who qualified for the quarterfinals Wednesday, is the top seed left in the tournament after No. 1 Roberta Vinci fell to Nina Bratchikova in the second round.
Greta Arn earned a quarterfinal meeting with Bratchikova Thursday thanks to a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Maria Abramovic.
Also reaching the quarterfinals Thursday was Patricia Mayr-Achleitner, who defeated Eva Birnerova 6-1, 6-3.
Minella lost in her championship match appearance in Cali to Alexandra Dulgheru.
