Basketball Hall of Fame finalists listed

ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Reggie Miller and Rick Pitino are among 12 finalists for the 2012 class of the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Miller was a five-time NBA all-star and Pitino coached five teams to the NCAA Final Four. They, along with Bill Fitch, who was NBA coach of the year in 1976 and 1980, and Katrina McClain, who helped the U.S. women's team to two Olympic gold medals, are first-time finalists.

Others on the ballot are: Maurice Cheeks, Ralph Sampson, Bernard King and Jamaal Wilkes as finalists among players; Dick Motta and Don Nelson as coaches; and referee Hank Nichols and the All American Red Heads, the first women's professional basketball team, as contributors.

To win induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame, finalists must receive at least 18 votes from the 24 members of the Honors Committee. The result of the vote will be announced April 2 with 2012 induction ceremonies set for Sept. 7 in Springfield, Mass.
