BU hockey player charged with rape

BOSTON, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- A Boston University hockey player was being held on $25,000 cash bail on charges of raping a female student, officials said.

University spokesman Colin Riley said BU police arrested junior defenseman Max Nicastro, 21, at his dorm about 6:30 a.m. Sunday, the Boston Herald reported.

Nicastro, a Thousand Oaks, Calif., native, was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Brighton District Court on a charge of rape, a spokesman with the Suffolk district attorney's office said.

Riley would not provide specifics about the allegation, citing an ongoing investigation.

Nicastro has been suspended from the team until the investigation is complete and could face further disciplinary action from BU, Riley said.

Nicastro, who is 6-foot-3 and weighs 210 pounds, has scored 11 goals in 102 games with BU.

His arrest comes about two months after the BU hockey team's leading scorer, Corey Trivino, was kicked off the team following allegations he forced his way into a dorm room and repeatedly groped a female student.
