SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Denis Istomin rolled into the semifinals of the SAP Open Friday by cutting short Andy Roddick's return to the ATP Tour.
Roddick was seeing his first action since retiring within an injury in his second-round match at the Australian Open. After reaching the quarterfinals this week he fell to Istomin 6-2, 6-4.

Defending champion and No. 3 seed Milos Raonic claimed a semifinal berth by fighting off sixth-seeded Kevin Anderson 7-6, 7-6 (7-3). Raonic fired 16 aces in the victory.
Raonic earned his first tour title last year at this tournament and he will try to move closer to a repeat performance when he meets Ryan Harrison in Saturday's semifinals.
Harrison, 19, ousted qualifier Dimitar Kutrovsky 6-1, 6-4.
