NEW YORK, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- A penalty shot by Jonathan Toews 65 seconds into the game ignited a four-goal first period Thursday, sending Chicago to a 4-2 win over the New York Rangers.

The Blackhawks ended a nine-game losing streak, their longest in five years. It was their first road win in 12 tries.

New York had won four in a row and remained seven points in front of Boston for the best record in the Eastern Conference.

Chicago scored three times in the first 4 minutes, also getting goals from Nick Leddy and Patrick Sharp. Marian Hossa made it 4-0 midway through the opening period.

Corey Crawford made 22 saves to get the win, giving up a goal in the second period to Marc Staal and one in the third period to Carl Hagelin.

Martin Biron stayed in the game for New York despite his early struggles and allowed the four goals on 22 shots.
