The Pistons owned a one-point lead heading into the final period but Gordon broke things open from long range. Detroit, one six NBA teams yet to win 10 games this season, claimed its ninth triumph of the campaign.
Rod Stuckey scored 25 points to lead Detroit, hitting all 11 of his attempts from the foul line. Gordon and Greg Monroe both had 22 points.
The four baskets from beyond the arc in the fourth quarter were the only ones Gordon made in the game. Monroe went 11-of-14 from the field.
Detroit overcame a 35-point effort from Rajon Rondo. Boston missed a chance to move within three games of Atlantic Division-leading Philadelphia and now is under attack from third-place New York, which is only a game behind the Celtics after winning seven in a row.
