Astros announcer Milo Hamilton to retire

HOUSTON, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Longtime Houston Astros announcer Milo Hamilton says he's retiring after the upcoming season, wrapping up a 27-year career as the team's broadcast voice.

Hamilton, 84, has put in more than 60 years in baseball broadcasting overall, including Major League Baseball stints with the St. Louis Browns, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves and Pittsburgh Pirates.

The 1992 Ford C. Frick Award winner has been behind the microphone for the Astros since 1985. He indicated he will continue his involvement with the team in other capacities.

Hamilton has called 11 no-hitters as well as Hank Aaron's record-setting 715th home run for the Braves in 1974.
