Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
KANSAS CITY, Mo., Feb. 14 (UPI) -- The Kansas City Royals on Tuesday said they had picked up their option in the contract of Manager Ned Yost for the 2013 season.
Yost was hired as manager May 13, 2010, and in July that season was given a two-year contract extension. Tuesday's agreement acts on a one-year team option that was included in that that contract.
The Royals have gone 126-163 under Yost, including a 71-91 mark in 2011. His career managerial record, which includes about six seasons at Milwaukee, is 583-665.
"What I like about this job is absolutely everything," Yost said on MLB.com. "I love the city, I love the ballpark. The ownership with the Glasses is phenomenal. Our front office is top-notch, our player development is top tier ... and these young players are a phenomenal group of talented young guys with awesome makeup. So there are really no downsides to this job at all -- none."
