CHICAGO, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Former Chicago Cubs outfielder Kosuke Fukudome has signed a one-year deal with the Chicago White Sox, the American League team said Tuesday.
Fukudome played for the Cubs from 2008 until he was traded to the Cleveland Indians July 28, 2011. He became a free agent after the season.
Fukudome will be paid $500,000 to play for the White Sox in 2012. The team has an option for 2013 that would be worth $3.5 million to the player. He made $14.5 million last year.
Fukudome, who turns 35 in April, played nine seasons with Chunichi of the Japanese Central League before joining the Cubs. He hit .262 with eight home runs and 35 runs batted in combined for the Cubs and Indians last season.
Over 572 games in the Major Leagues, he's hit .260 with 42 home runs and 191 RBI.
