NHL: San Jose 5, Washington 3

WASHINGTON, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Joe Pavelski collected two goals and a pair of assists Monday, powering the San Jose Sharks to a 5-3 win over Washington.

Joe Thornton contributed three assists and Logan Couture had a pair of helpers for the Sharks, who beat the Capitals for the 16th time in their last 17 games.

Patrick Marleau had a goal and an assist while Brent Burns and Ryane Clowe each scored a goal for San Jose, which improved to 2-0 on its nine-game road trip.

Thomas Greiss turned aside 39-of-42 shots to earn the victory.

Dmitry Orlov, Roman Hamrlik and Jeff Schultz scored for Washington, which dropped a third straight.

Braden Holtby subbed for an ailing Tomas Vokoun and let in five goals on 35 shots.
