Tipsarevic locks Davis Cup win for Serbia

NIS, Serbia, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Janko Tipsarevic and Dusan Lajovic each won in straight sets Sunday in finishing off a 4-1 Davis Cup series win for Serbia over Sweden.

Tipsarevic's 6-2, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 victory over Michael Ryderstedt proved to be the series clincher Sunday and Lajovic followed with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Filip Prpic for the final tally.

Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki put the Serbs up 2-0 in Friday's singles but Swedes Johan Brunstrom and Robert Lindstedt came out on top of a 4-hour doubles match by winning the fifth set 10-8 to pull within 2-1 in the best-of-five series.

Tipsarevic claimed the series for Serbia with his win over Ryderstedt behind 25 aces and without dropping his serve. Tipsarevic won more than 70 percent of the points on serve.

Lajovic came out on top of a relative sloppy final match. He and Prpic combined for 73 unforced errors but Lajovic saved all four break points he faced.

Serbia draws the Czech Republic in the Davis Cup quarterfinals April 6-8. The Czechs were 4-1 winners this weekend over Italy.
