NHL: Phoenix 3, Chicago 0

GLENDALE, Ariz., Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Mike Smith turned in his third shutout of the season Saturday and the Phoenix Coyotes handed reeling Chicago an eighth straight loss in a 3-0 verdict.

Smith turned aside all 38 shots he saw, racking up his 14th career whitewash as Phoenix improved to 3-1 in its season's series against the Blackhawks and posted its fifth straight win overall.

Radim Vrbata, Boyd Gordon and Kyle Chipchura scored, and Gilbert Brule added a pair of assists for the Coyotes, who moved into the eighth and final playoff slot in the Western Conference.

The Blackhawks, meanwhile, dropped their 10th straight on the road,

Ray Emery made 24 saves for Chicago.
