NHL: Tampa Bay 2, Buffalo 1

BUFFALO, N.Y., Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Steven Stamkos assisted on Tampa Bay's first goal Saturday and scored the eventual game-winner in the Lightning's 2-1 decision over Buffalo.

Stamkos one-timed a pass from Teddy Purcell on a 2-on-1 break past Ryan Miller with less than 7 minutes remaining in the middle frame, giving the Lightning a 2-0 advantage.

The tally was an NHL-best 37th of the year for the Bolts center.

Steve Downie also scored and Mathieu Garon earned the victory with 26 stops as Tampa Bay won for the second time in five games.

Jason Pominville scored and Miller made 26 saves for the Sabres.
