Three-way tie at Pebble Beach

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif., Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Two-time former champion Dustin Johnson, Danny Lee and Charlie Wi all finished at 9-under-par Thursday after one round of the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

Tiger Woods opened his PGA Tour season with a 4-under 68 on a calm, sunny day on the Monterey Peninsula.

Three courses are used for tournament, one of them having a different par than the other two.

Wi, a four-time runner up but never a winner on the tour, played the par-70 Monterey Peninsula Country Club course and he had the low round of the day -- a 9-under 61.

Johnson and Lee both shot a 63 over the par-72 Pebble Beach Golf Links. Johnson eagled both the par-4 third and par-5 sixth holes en route to a 30 on the front nine.

Not only did Johnson win this tournament in both 2009 and 2010, he owned a three-shot lead going into the final round of the U.S. Open that was played at Pebble Beach in 2010. He shot an 82 in the closing round that year and faded to a tie for fifth.

Ken Duke and Brian Harman both had a 64 at Pebble Beach to share fourth place. Duke set a back-nine course record with a 28 that included an eagle at the par-4 16th. He birdied every other hole on the back nine except the par-4 11th and par-3 17th.

Woods, seeking his first tour win since 2009, shot his 68 at Spyglass Hill. He suffered two bogeys in the round, which left him in a tie for 15th place.

Woods has completed only two tour events since last year's Masters, finishing out of contention in both of them. He shared the lead going into the last round at a European Tour stop in the Middle East two weeks ago before finishing fifth.

"I drove it great all day today," Woods said. "Unfortunately, going into the greens I was not very good at all. I hit some awful golf shots. Hopefully I can get it going the next couple of days."
