HOUSTON, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- The 2013 NBA All-Star Game has been awarded to Houston, marking the third time the game will be played in Houston.

The game is set for Feb. 17, 2013, with the full weekend of activities beginning Feb. 15, the NBA said Wednesday.

"Houston is a spectacular sports city and for one week it will be the basketball capital of the world," said NBA Commissioner David Stern. "NBA All-Star is a magnificent celebration of our game and I want to thank the city and the Rockets for welcoming us once again."

The Rockets were the host team for the 2006 NBA All-Star Game at Toyota Center. The NBA All-Star Game was contested in the Astrodome in 1989.

The 2012 NBA All-Star Game is Feb. 26 in Orlando, Fla.
