

PATTAYA CITY, Thailand, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Seventh-seed Sorana Cirstea and unseeded Anastasia Rodionova claimed wins Monday in opening-day play of the PTT Pattaya Open tennis tournament in Thailand.
Cirstea easily handled Erika Sema 6-2, 6-2. She won 58 percent of the points on serve and 56 percent when receiving.
Cirstea forced Sema into 16 break-point situations, winning six. Cirstea lost her own serve twice in the match.
Rodionova got past Iryna Bremond 6-4, 6-0. She lost just 13 points on serve and had four service breaks. Rodionova dropped eight points in the second set.
Vera Zvonareva, who's been tabbed to replace Maria Sharapova for Russia in the Fed Cup semifinals in April, is seeded No. 1 for the PTT Pattaya event. Daniela Hantuchova, the No. 3 seed this year, is the defending champion.
