

BIELLA, Italy, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Flavia Pennetta and Roberta Vinci teamed up for a doubles win Sunday, leading Italy to a 3-2 Fed Cup quarterfinals decision over Ukraine.
Pennetta and Vinci combined to best the Ukrainian duo of Olga Savchuk and Lesia Tsurenko 7-5, 0-6, 6-1 to place Italy into the Fed Cup semifinals.
Underdog Ukraine forced the deciding doubles match when Italy's Sara Errani retired when trailing Lesia Tsurenko 6-1, 3-0 in the day's second reverse-singles match.
Italy had taken a 2-1 lead when Francesca Schiavone overcame a first-set loss to outlast Kateryna Bondarenko 6-7(6), 7-5, 6-4.
Ukraine also posted an upset in Saturday's Day 1 when Tsurenko surprised Schiavone 6-1, 6-2 in the second singles match.
Italy now goes on to face the Czech Republic in April's semifinals.
