NEWARK, N.J., Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Kris Humphries put New Jersey in front for good with 5:22 to play Wednesday and the Nets survived down the stretch to edge Detroit 99-96.

After Detroit's Tayshaun Prince missed a jumper that would have tied the game with 4 seconds to play, Sundiata Gaines was able to make only 1-of-2 foul shots for the Nets. That gave the Pistons a chance to tie it, but Brandon Knight missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer -- leaving Detroit with its seventh straight loss and its 20th setback of the season in 24 games.

Deron Williams led New Jersey with 26 points and Humphries had 18 points and eight rebounds. Humphries made two free throws with 5:22 to go that gave the Nets a 90-88 lead.

Prince and Greg Monroe both had 21 for the Pistons, who have played 12 road games this year and have won just once.
