NEW YORK, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Forwards Eric Boulton of the New Jersey Devils and Jared Boll of the Columbus Blue Jackets each were fined $2,500 by the NHL Wednesday.

Boulton was sanctioned for delivering a slash to forward Michael Rupp of the New York Rangers in the second period of Tuesday's game against the Devils.

Boll, meanwhile, drew a fine for targeting the head of San Jose Sharks forward Joe Thornton with an illegal check in Tuesday's Sharks-Blue Jackets contest.

The league said the fines will go to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
