'Isles of Wonder' to open Olympics

LONDON, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- London 2012 organizers announced the theme of the Summer Olympics opening ceremony will be "Isles of Wonder."

Danny Boyle, artistic director of the ceremony, announced six months prior to the Games the ceremony will be about the recovery of a land poisoned by industrial legacy, the BBC reported Friday.

The Academy Award winning director of "Slumdog Millionaire" and "Trainspotting" said the ceremony will include the largest ringing bell in Europe, which will be inscribed with a quote from William Shakespeare's "The Tempest," "Be not afeard, the isle is full of noises."

"We'll be celebrating the whole of the country ... there are so many 'Isles of Wonder,'" Boyle said.

Boyle said the ceremony will include about 900 children from London boroughs hosting Olympic events.
