LOS ANGELES, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- A late turnover by Blake Griffin followed by Andrew Bynum's layup Wednesday keyed a 96-91 win for the Los Angeles Lakers over the Los Angeles Clippers.
It was the first victory in four games for the Lakers, who had suffered consecutive setbacks to Miami, Orlando and Indiana.
The Clippers led by as many as nine points in the third quarter but the Lakers caught up early in the fourth and the game appeared headed for a dramatic conclusion.
Griffin had a chance to tie it for the Clippers inside the final minute but his turnover proved to be a backbreaker and Bynum followed with a layup that gave the Lakers a four-point lead with 35 seconds to play.
Each team has a win over the other this season, the Clippers having posted an eight-point victory Jan. 14 despite a 42-point performance from Kobe Bryant.
Bryant scored 24 Wednesday, including 3-of-4 free throw attempts in the final 15 seconds to prevent any collapse. Pau Gasol had 23 and Bynum 19.
Griffin had 26 points, but got to the foul line just twice and missed both attempts.
