DETROIT, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Jimmy Howard turned aside 21-of-22 shots Monday and the Detroit Red Wings won their 17th straight home game with a 3-1 decision over St. Louis.

Howard stopped 14 straight St. Louis shots over the final two periods and logged an NHL-best 30th victory as the Red Wings extended their team-record home ice success string.

The streak is the third-longest in NHL history -- three short of matching a record shared by the 1929-30 Boston Bruins and 1975-76 Philadelphia Flyers.

Pavel Datsyuk, Johan Franzen and Niklas Kronwall tallied for the Red Wings, who improved to a league-best 33-15-1.

The Blues absorbed their first regulation loss in January.

Scott Nichol scored and Jaroslav Halak stopped 25-of-28 shots for St. Louis.
